Read Bart Ehrman, A Brief History of the New Testament, Chapter 19.

Final Reflection must include a minimum of four direct quotations (properly cited), per each numbered question in the Final Reflection Prompt, from the course textbook and/or relevant course readings and resources. For each direct quote you include from the class reading and/or resources, you will need to take a screenshot (this can be done on your phone, tablet, or computer) of the quote in its original context (i.e., in the text, video, or webpage from which it was excerpted).
The direct quote should be underlined or highlighted in the screenshot.
1 . Gospel of Mary: In what sense is this gospel a "gnostic" gospel? How does this gospel portray Jesus differently than the four canonical gospels? Provide 2-3 specific examples of the differences, citing specific instances in the Gospel of Mary and the canonical gospels. What role does Mary play in this gospel? What has she been taught by Jesus and how do the male disciples react to her teaching what she has learned/received from Jesus? Finally, how might the modern Christian church be different if the Gospel of Mary had been included in the New Testament? As always, in answering the questions, make sure to include some direct quotes from the primary source (the Gospel of Mary) and some quotes from the secondary sources I've provided (the video on the Gospel of Mary and the video on the Nag Hammadi texts).
