Discussion: Collateral Damage
Greetings,
Now that we have covered some of the research and literature on how it is that women enter into the criminal justice system, we will shift our focus just a bit to explore some of the direct and indirect effects of being or having been incarcerated.
Therefore, you will first read the article:collateral consequences," linked in the module and then respond to the following prompt, making certain to CITE when appropriate.
In no less than two paragraphs, describe to the class what a "collateral consequence" is and how they impact the lives of women. More specifically, within your response. discuss the four (4) major consequences presented my McConnell and then argue which of the four you believe to have had the most negative effect on the lives of women.
In addition to the first part of your post, search the internet for a story involving a current or a previously incarcerated woman who has experienced first hand the collateral consequences mentioned in the literature. Post the story in your post and provide a brief description of the woman's story.
