Research shows that boys of color, are disciplined more frequently in early childhood settings, often due to implicit bias rather than behavior alone, I believe early childhood educators need a stronger understanding of child development, as many behaviors viewed as challenging are developmentally appropriate for young children. The early childhood field is predominantly female, which may influence expectations for behaviors, such as sitting still or being quiet. When boys do not meet these expectations, their behavior may be viewed more negatively, particularly for boys of color. Educators can reduce bias by reflecting on their assumptions and considering each child's social and cultural background. Building family partnerships and using culturally responsive practices help ensure discipline is fair and developmentally appropriate. Need Assignment Help?
