Review-economic globalization and the welfare state

Discussion:Globalization

Globalization requires economies to become more integrated and more complex. For all the advantages of a global economy, it is possible to cite just as many disadvantages. For example, some might argue that the ability for Japanese auto makers to sell their cars at a reasonable price in the United States might push American auto makers to create a more cost-effective and high-quality car. Others might argue that the country of Japan subsidizes their auto makers and, therefore, gains an unfair advantage in the American market. Globalization allows citizens the opportunity to buy a high-quality vehicle for a low price from a Japanese auto maker or choose to pay a higher price and buy American. This example illustrates the complexity of globalization and how it can provide specific advantages and disadvantages depending on your role as consumer, corporation, government, or economist.
