I. Research the wildlife management "model" used in three countries, each located on different continents. One of the counties should be the United States, Canada, or Mexico, but the remaining countries are up to you as long as they are located on different continents. For each country, answer, in narrative format, the following questions.
1. Who owns the wildlife? Does it vary by species taxa?
2. Do landowners have legal responsibilities to manage wildlife?
3. Who administers hunting/harvest of wildlife?
4. Who administers endangered species management?
5. Where does most of the funding for wildlife management come from?
6. At what level is wildlife management primarily coordinated (e.g., national, regional, local)?
II. Compare and contrast the models of wildlife management in these three countries with an emphasis on pros and cons of the models. As you do so, be sure to address the relative benefits of privatization of wildlife or public ownership of wildlife, and the national or more local administration/coordination of wildlife management. III. What do you think is the best model (or blend of models) to deal with modern issues in wildlife management? Explain your answer and include how your model would influence funding and coordination of wildlife management activities, as well as how population, habitat, and human management (the "Triad") is handled in your model.
