Nurse-Family Relationships
First read the article about families and school climate to gain an understanding of the general concepts.
Decide what family structure Or impacting variable you want to learn more about. For example, you may be interested in families with at least 3 generations in one home. Then perform a literature search to identify if and how this family structure impacts the school climate/childhood outcomes/scholastic achievement. As an example of a family with 3 gens in one home: I have no idea if this is accurate, but let's pretend the literature identifies a higher prevalence of truancy concerns since children stay home to care for the elders in the home, which negatively impacts scholastic achievement, extracurricular involvement, etc,
Consider the individual child's needs and how family focused interventions could be used to improve these outcome findings. Maybe traditional methods to deal with truancy would be counter productive, and these children would be better supported by instituting ......
Now let's pretend family structures with 3 generations revealed children with above average scholastic achievement, higher empathy scores, less truancy, strong feelings of connectedness. Was this finding true across socioeconomic and ethnic groups...if yes, then what characteristics could be contributing and could these characteristics or interventions be useful for other family structures.
Another example: school bullying, peer victimization, and the high prevalence of victims identifying themselves LGBQTI. Identify school performance of these students, their family structure & if the family provided support did this impact their school performance. In essence, does a supportive family lay the framework for LGBQTI students to have resiliency in the face of bullying?
These are a few examples but you can choose a plethora of different constructs. This assignment will require a level of independent reasoning. In addition to thinking about holistic care, individual-family-societal relationships. This assignment is meant to challenge you to critically appraise literature and independently formulate appropriate nursing interventions. This is definitely a baccalaureate level expectation and I'm sure you're all up to the task!
