Problem:
After completing this course, I honestly would not change anything significant about the structure or content. The flow of the course was clear, organized, and built progressively in a way that made each topic connect naturally to the next. The materials were practical and applicable, especially for someone like me who plans to pursue a career in Marriage and Family Therapy. I appreciated how the assignments required both academic understanding and hands-on application, rather than just memorization of concepts.
The topic that particularly caught my interest was the comparison and application of different counseling approaches, especially Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and behavior therapy. I found it fascinating how similar goals behavior change and improved emotional functioning can be achieved through different theoretical frameworks. I would love to learn more about how to integrate multiple approaches in practice, particularly how to blend cognitive techniques with more person-centered interventions while still maintaining theoretical consistency. As someone who values empathy and connection, I am especially interested in deepening my understanding of how therapeutic alliance influences outcomes across modalities.
One of my favorite parts of this course was completing the mock counseling session videos. Those assignments helped me move beyond simply defining skills like reflection, summarization, and validation, and instead apply them in real-time. Demonstrating those skills in context strengthened my confidence and helped me better understand how intentional and structured counseling truly is. It made the learning experience feel realistic and career focused.
If I could offer one piece of advice to the next class, it would be to fully engage in the mock sessions and not treat them as "just another assignment." They are an opportunity to practice building rapport, managing nervousness, and developing a counseling presence. The more effort and authenticity you put into those sessions, the more you will grow. This course provides a strong foundation, but the growth depends on how willing you are to step into the role of a counselor and practice the skills intentionally. Need Assignment Help?
