1. What is your chosen prompt for the literary analysis assignment?

(Use the space below to complete this section. Include the number and first sentence of the prompt you chose from the list of prompts.)

I have chosen prompt One for my analysis. Questions are

• How does the grandmother's property at the pawn shop help to define the narrator's desires and feeling of obligation to recover it? Why is it so important?

• How does the character accomplish his objective, and how is this surprising considering all of the unfortunate events and bad decisions he makes along the way?

• How do the other characters--the Aleuts, the pawn shop owner, the waitress, the police officer, the other Indians at the bar--each play an important role in showing how the narrator is committed to an important mission he is worthy of completing

2. What interests you most about this prompt and why?

(Use the space below to complete this section. Your response must be 100 to 150 words.)

This prompt most interested me as the story is about a Native American who is homeless and is trying to reconnect with his now decided grandmother. As the character is walking through the street he notices his grandmother's regalia. This is a item of clothing that is distinctive as religious in Native American culture. These clothing's are worn during ceremonies such as a powwow. This is very emotional for him and anyone that can relate as this regalia is the closest connection the character has since the passing of his grandmother and it is a part of his culture.

3. What text(s) will you write about? Why?

(Use the space below to complete this section. Your response must be 100 to 150 words.)

The text I will be writing about is "What you Pawn I will Redeem". This text largely spoke to me as the main character is Native American and homeless. I big portion of my family is Cherokee Indian, and it is common for those to pass down lessons from family by stories. This story also touched me as I know what it is like to only have a item to symbolize by ancestors and passed loved ones. I also have been aware of the alarming rate of homelessness in the Native American Community due to alcoholism and both issues are all over this story. The main character blows all his money to buy booze and is homeless himself, he is the typical homeless Indian unfortunately.

4. What is your working thesis? Keep in mind that "working thesis" means you can slightly modify your thesis for the draft and/or final essay.

(Use the space below to complete this section. Your thesis statement must be ONLY one to two sentences long.)

The main character gets his grandmothers regalia back by not money but determination he was able to do so by a serious of mistakes and bad choices but in the end the right decision was made.

5. What are three key ideas that you will discuss in support of your thesis? (Write one -- and only one -- sentence for each point.

a. The character gave a portion of his money to others as a cultural respeact to family and friends
b. He was able to connect with almost all the choristers in the story and rec
c. Moral ideals help the character get the regalia back from the pawn shop owner

6. What questions/concerns do you have at this point about your project?

(Use the space below to complete this section. Your response must be 75 to 150 words long.)

This will be the first project of this kind for me and will be using the writing center a lot, the only concern I have is that I have a hard time keeping my thoughts on paper organized as I do not see the paper laid out in front of me as many other do. I have never been strong at literature and am nervous.
