Problem related to unintentional bias

Question:

How to answer my classmate's discussion question? I think unintentional bias is something everyone has, even if we don't realize it. None of us grow up without being influenced by our families, culture, or personal experiences. The important part is being willing to recognize those biases and work on them instead of pretending they don't exist. One area where I think I could unintentionally show bias is through communication. I sometimes assume that people are comfortable talking openly because I tend to be a very direct person. However, I know that not everyone communicates the same way or feels comfortable discussing personal issues right away. If I made that assumption with a client, it could affect the trust we are trying to build. Another area I have to be mindful of is making assumptions based on someone's appearance or background. As someone in recovery, I know what it feels like to be judged before someone knows my story. That experience reminds me that everyone has their own struggles, and I never want to make someone feel misunderstood or stereotyped. Working with diverse populations requires humility, active listening, and a willingness to learn from each client. By recognizing my own biases and continuing to educate myself, I can provide more respectful, ethical, and culturally competent care. Self-awareness is an important part of becoming an effective behavioral health professional (Fremgen, 2024). Need Assignment Help?
