Discussion post 1:

Digital civil discourse usually involves communication that stays respectful even when people strongly disagree. Several traits are often linked with proper online etiquette. These include avoiding personal attacks, acknowledging different viewpoints, and focusing on facts rather than assumptions. Another important element is emotional control. Online conversations can escalate quickly, so pausing before responding helps prevent misunderstandings. Transparency also matters. People who use clear language, cite reliable information, and avoid anonymous hostility tend to support healthier discussions. Research from the Pew Research Center notes that online platforms often struggle with incivility, which is why consistent expectations for respectful conduct are increasingly important (Rainie & Anderson, 2017).

Following proper etiquette online can also strengthen someone's personal brand and professional image. Employers often review how applicants communicate digitally because online posts reflect decision-making skills and emotional maturity. Someone who maintains respectful interactions, even during disagreements, demonstrates professionalism. This behavior helps build trust with colleagues, potential clients, and professional networks. It also shows that the individual can handle conflict constructively, which is valuable in leadership roles. In contrast, rude or impulsive communication can harm credibility and limit career opportunities. Practicing digital etiquette protects a person's reputation and supports long-term success. Discussion post 2:

Hello, everyone!

In this day and age, a lot of communication is done through social media or cyber communication. When communicating on social media, it is important to know the rights and wrongs to avoid civil discourse. For me, I like to make sure I am aware of how my tone sounds in my messages or posts as well as choosing words carefully to avoid triggering anyone. It is also important to make sure you have gotten a thorough amount of information and facts before commenting or posting about hot button topics.

Ensuring that you have proper social etiquette is important for shaping one's persona personally and professionally. It is important to remember that your social media persona is viewed by friends, family, and sometimes even employers. If you are known for posting things that are considered to cause civil discourse, then employers could decide that they don't want you representing their company. Your social persona shows who and how you are in person. Many people today tend to find someone on social media to decipher who they are as a person.
