Assignment Overview:
Cultural Humility
"Cultural humility involves an ongoing process of self-exploration and self-critique combined with a willingness to learn from others. It means entering a relationship with another person with the intention of honoring their beliefs, customs, and values. It means acknowledging differences and accepting that person for who they are. "
-Soundscaping Source, 2013
In the above explanation, ongoing process is a key phrase. Cultural humility is not something to achieve; rather, it is a way of being in the world. For social workers, this way of being is brought into each client interaction and becomes part of your professional identity. Other phrases associated with cultural humility include self-awareness, other-awareness, and openness. In this log entry, you reflect on who you are, how you interact with others who are different, and what a culturally humble approach means for social work practice.

I am from West Africa, Liberia. I am a single mother of two boys. The oldest I had when I was a Teenager in high school, and the youngest is almost five. I am a Christian. I migrated to the United States about fourteen years ago. Transitioning from my West African culture to that of the United States was quite challenging.
