Problem regarding the gestalt theory/therapy

Problem:

Steven Universe is the character I'm going to stick because I feel he can still be understood through gestalt theory/therapy. Most of Steven's character traits and development focuses on self awareness, accepting different parts of himself, and getting to the bottom of unfinished emotional experiences. Gestalt therapy goes into how important it is being present here and now, increases awareness of emotions, and helps clients become their whole self by combining all aspects of who they are.

Steven usually ignores him own emotions and would rather focus on others needs. Throughout the show he takes on the responsibility of helping everyone with solving their problems, but struggles recognizing his own feelings and emotions. To help Steven become more aware of what he is experiencing a therapist could asking questions such as, what are you feeling right now? Or what happens when you acknowledge that you need support too? A therapist could encourage Steven to explore how these emotions are affecting him in the moment instead of placing focus only on the past.

Steven also has a lot of unresolved feelings/emotions connected to his mother, Rose Quartz. Steven love's his mother, but he also has feelings of frustration and hurt because he feels as if he's responsible for her past choices. The empty chair technique could help Steven express emotions that he never had the opportunity to share with his mother. the empty chair technique could allow Steven to acknowledge both his love for her and his feelings of sadness, and disappointment, helping him move toward emotional resolution. Steven Universe has a major theme of integration of the self, which is also a focus in Gestalt therapy. Steven struggles with understanding how all parts of himself or his identity fit together. He is part human, part gem, he is Rose's son, and he is a person who really wants to help others. There are times that Steven hides difficult emotions because he wants to stay as the positive and caring person that everyone depends on. A therapist would help Steven recognize they all of his feelings and experiences are parts of who he is. He can still be compassionate while feeling all the feelings of sadness, anger, and disappointment. From a Gestalt perspective a therapist would be able to provide a authentic, supportive relationship while guiding Steven towards self acceptance and strengthen his awareness. Steven wouldn't be told what to do, but a therapist would help him discover his own needs, his own feelings, and his own strength. I believe Steven Universe would benefit from Gestalt therapy because his growth throughout the series comes from learning to accept all parts of himself and becoming a more complete person.
