Problem:
The character I am choosing to discuss for this theory is Fiona Gallagher from Shameless. During the course of the show, it is presented that Fiona is growing through all of the pains. From making careless and stupid decision to making decisions that would be best for her and her environment, it is clear that Fiona has emotionally grown through the course of the show. The reason why I think Fiona would be great for this therapy is that she tends to project, retroflect, and deflect. These are three of five contact boundary disturbances of what Polster described. I feel like it would be really important for Fiona to explore her resistances, why she thinks that protects her, and what it actually keeps her from experiencing. Additionally, Fiona uses a lot of non-verbal cues to express herself, and I feel like the therapist would greatly pay attention to these cues, so they can then better help Fiona discover herself more. There are numerous exercises and experiments that would be beneficial to Fiona, as well. For instance, using the Future Projection Technique can help Fiona understand her resistances by bringing an anticipated event to the present moment. The amount of trauma Fiona has gone through is intense, but I really believe she could benefit from Gestalt Therapy. Need Assignment Help?
