Problem regarding the family systems therapy

Problem: For this Discussion, you will write a case conceptualization as though you were a family systems counselor. Need Assignment Help?

You will select one of the five client cases provided in the Learning Resources and conceptualize the case as though you were practicing from a family systems theoretical orientation.

As you review this week's Learning Resources and media, pay close attention to family systems concepts, interventions, and counselor roles in planning treatment. Further, reflect on family systems therapy with respect to developing your own theoretical orientation. In what ways do you find that family systems therapy may resonate with your own point of view?

Alejandro is a 44-year-old Mexican-American male who works as a partner in a high-pressure corporate law firm where the stakes are high and performance is everything. He often works long hours, juggling deadlines, managing cases, and mentoring junior attorneys. Although highly successful in his career, he describes a persistent sense that "nothing is ever enough," and worries that any small mistake could undermine his professional or familial stability. He reports chronic worry, frequent rumination, restlessness, irritability, muscle tension, and difficulty sleeping. He has a constant need to stay productive, feels guilty anytime he steps away from work, and struggles to relax during non-work hours. He reports that he is constantly "on edge," and "can't shut off his brain."

Alejandro states, "It looks like everything is fine from the outside, but inside I'm always bracing for something to go wrong, at work, at home, or inside myself." Alejandro is the eldest son of Mexican immigrants. His father worked construction and instilled the values of hard work, self-reliance, and emotional control. He provided for the family, but was emotionally distant. Alejandro recalls being praised only for tangible achievements and discouraged from showing emotion. His mother, while more nurturing, encouraged self-discipline and humility and relied on Alejandro to be a role model for his younger siblings. Emotional expression was discouraged, and success was equated with self-sacrifice.

Alejandro is married to Carla, a middle school teacher, and they have three children, ages 10 (Cece), 14 (Mia), and 17 (Alejandro Jr.). Their relationship has grown increasingly distant, not from lack of love, but from a lack of emotional intimacy and time together. Carla often urges him to slow down and talk about how he's feeling, but Alejandro finds this difficult, often brushing off attempts at emotional closeness. Their interactions have become primarily centered around parenting and logistics. Alejandro deeply loves his children, yet fears he's becoming like his own father, present but emotionally distant. He has noticed his teenage son becoming more withdrawn since announcing that he is gay.

Alejandro expressed having a difficult time with his son's sexual orientation and expressed concern about losing connection with him. In session, he states, "I want to be there for my children, and I don't want to be the kind of father who's just around to pay the bills. I want my kids to know they can come to me, but I don't know how to show them that without falling apart." This awareness has become a motivating force in Alejandro seeking counseling.

In subsequent sessions, Alejandro revealed that he is a devoted Christian and states that his faith has always been an important part of his life. He attends church semi-regularly with his family and often turns to prayer during times of stress. However, recently, he reports feeling spiritually disconnected, sharing that, "I believe God is there, but I haven't felt close to Him in a long time." He expressed guilt over not feeling spiritually grounded, especially in his roles as a husband and father, stating, "I know I'm failing as a Godly man."

He is unsure how to return to a place of spiritual peace.
