Write a reply to this post. In Gottman and Gottman (2024), one of the couples is termed as Conflict-Avoidant. This couple is described as a couple that does engage in agenda building but does not engage in persuasion. They tend to minimize the issue, while emphasizing their bonds and agreeing to disagree so no real solution or choice is made. Gottman and Gottman (2024) also mention that there is two types of avoiders, one who does not discuss feelings and one that does. The couple in the example are ones that do discuss their feelings, and I believe this to be one of the qualities that makes them a successful couple. "W: It makes me insecure that we have no cushion, in case something happens. H: What are you worried about?" (Gottman & Gottman, 2024, p.214). By expressing feelings it inclines the husband to be more receptive and question why she feels the way she does. I think this is beneficial to the communication between the couple, even if they do not reach a decision. Another trait I believe makes them a successful couple is that they do not try to convince one another through a form of yelling or putting the other down. They can just agree to disagree in a calm manner and decide to pick it up on another day if needed. "H: Well, honey, I love you and this family. I don't think this is a big deal, really. We are just going to have different points of view on this topic. Let's just agree to disagree. It won't help to argue about this." (Gottman & Gottman, 2024, p. 214). Need Assignment Help?
