Problem on clinical mental health counselors

Problem:

As a student, how would you respond to this classmate of yours, include in-text citation, and references

I think it is really important for clinical mental health counselors to understand the ethical and legal responsibilities that come with working with clients who have substance use disorders. In Arizona, counselors can pursue addiction specific licensure and certifications through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners and national organizations like the NAADAC. These certifications help counselors develop competency in assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and relapse prevention. They also ensure counselors understand confidentiality laws such as 42 CFR Part 2, which provides extra protections for clients receiving substance use treatment (SAMHSA, 2024). These protections are important because many clients already experience shame or stigma related to addiction. Counselors have to be careful about protecting client information while still practicing ethically and collaboratively. I have seen how important it is to stay within your scope of practice and seek supervision when needed. I have learned how important professional identity, boundaries, and cultural sensitivity are when working with vulnerable populations. Many clients with substance use disorders also experience trauma, anxiety, depression, or family stressors, so counselors need training to recognize co-occurring concerns and avoid misdiagnosis that could negatively impact treatment outcomes. This is especially important for adolescents and marginalized communities that may already face stigma around mental health and addiction (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2024). Need Assignment Help?
