Assignment task: What would be a response to this:
The specialty that I've decided to seek was Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMH-NP) because I have personally and publicly seen the effects it has on individuals. I've watched loved ones suffer from the silent killer of mental health and it sparked an interest to pursue a career of treating individuals experiencing the detrimental effects it can have on one's health.
Mental health is a perplexing subject that requires a great amount of education and awareness. Mental health is important in every stage of life, from childhood to adulthood, which is why it can be complicated to detect because it may not be as easily envisioned. My goal of becoming a PMH-NP is to properly and holistically treat patients rather than turning to medication regimens. I'd like to offer non-pharmaceutical interventions to patient's before turning to pharmaceutical interventions.
Upon obtaining my degree from Walden University, I'd like to begin a position in an outpatient setting and to develop a program that engages people to gain awareness while destroying the stigma that surrounds mental health. The professional organization that affiliates with my career is the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) which provides current research, education and resources regarding psychiatric diagnoses (American Nurses Association, 2022). Choosing to pursue the NP program at Walden University will help in my journey of achieving my academic and professional goals. Intertwining my studies and bedside experience will aid in developing further insight toward my career.
