Problem: Proofread this: A National Institute of Justice-funded study investigated the prevalence of dating violence among teens ranging from the 7th to the 12th within New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Almost 52% of the participants were female and majority of the participants were Caucasian. The findings revealed that many teens experience different forms of abuse in their relationships, with psychological abuse being the most common at 32.6%, followed by physical violence 20.7%, cyber abuse 18%, and sexual coercion 9%. Also, teens who were actively dating in the past year reported even higher rates of abuse in all categories but physical violence was the highest at 47.2%. The purpose of this study was to bring awareness to teen dating violence, the need for awareness, prevention, and intervention efforts because even teens can experience domestic violence.
