Problem:
A good response for this discussion a discussion format If in a committee which is reworking an ethics code I was a member I would put forth that sexual relations with former clients be included in what is defined as unethical to the great extent that in almost all cases the power dynamic and emotional vulnerability which is a feature of therapy extends past the termination of the therapeutic relationship which in turn presents a great risk of exploitation or harm. As for social, business, or professional relationships the general approach should be to avoid them which is founded in the fact that dual relationships tend to blur boundaries and may bring up issues of transference or reactivation of dependency; while at the same time we must recognize that in some cases which play out in small communities which do not have large pools of professionals such relationships are unavoidable. For example, a former client's attendance at a public event which is noted in a casual way or a social invite which is extended and which time has passed since the termination of the therapy and which also is conducted with great care to defined boundaries may at times be put forth as a exception. Also business and social relationships which are of a personal nature would require very great care and in most cases are still to be eschewed. In the end the overriding principle which should guide is that of the former client's well being, the prevention of exploitation, and the upholding of professional integrity. Need Assignment Help?
