Preputial prolapse

This deformity is seen in some of the tropical zebu breeds but is not uncommon in European breeds. Initially, it begins as a temperory eversion of a small part of the preputial mucosa which later develops inot a permanent prolapse of a substantial part of the preputial inner layer. The prolapse results from inadequate development of cranial preputial muscles leading to the formation of a pendulous sheath with a large flabby opening. There is swelling of the prolapsed mucosa which suffers more damage from sharp grasses and insect bites.
