A brief opening - why you're writing, which slot or rotation you're seeking, what draws you to the site.
One or two specific training goals tied to what the site actually offers, with your skills demonstrated through examples rather than asserted.
Named specifics - the actual rotations, seminars, supervisors, and program philosophies that match your interests. The book is blunt that "everything at your site sounds great" reads as disingenuous and signals no real match.
Relevant paid work or certifications that don't surface elsewhere.
Optionally, relocation context - if you want to return to a hometown or are genuinely willing to move somewhere less sought-after that can help. Frame location as one reason among several, or the committee may conclude geography is your actual motive.
An assertive close rather than "I look forward to hearing from you."
Two cautions worth carrying forward: be judicious with personal disclosure and get a second read on any humor, since it travels badly in writing. And don't claim a fit that isn't there.
