Assignment- Type Design: Creating A Headline For A Meme
Background
Internet memes are a fun communication tool frequently seen in social media. These memes are a lot like marketing materials in that they often rely on images and text headlines. The main difference is that instead of compelling you to purchase a good or service, they have a goal of making you smile and laugh.
What is an internet meme? If you're unfamiliar with the concept, a simple web search asking that question will certainly provide a number of descriptions and examples. If, however, you're looking for a more formal definition, the author of the 2014 book, Memes in Digital Culture, provides examples and defines "Internet Meme" as: "(a) a group of digital items sharing common characteristics of content, form, and/or stance, which (b) were created with awareness of each other, and (c) were circulated, imitated, and/or transformed via the Internet by many users."
Task
In this assignment you will be creating a meme that contains an image along with headline text. The "Module-Project-Instructions" file provides detailed instructions accompanied by relevant screenshots.
Through the completion of this assignment, you will practice choosing and placing appropriate typeface/fonts as well as exploring images whose copyright permissions allow them to be used in the creation of derivative works.
Be careful not to create a message which might be considered offensive. Don't worry if it isn't funny; this is about the type, not the quality of your comedy.
Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
1. The answer should be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
2. The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
3. Also include a reference page. The Citations and references should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
