Community leaders want you to enact a policy restricting your officers First Amendment right to free speech due to recent high profile items in the national news media. The police union is aware of this situation and wants you to consider the fact that police officers have the same rights as other citizens and enacting such a policy could result in costly litigation by officers against you and the department and most likely will cause morale to suffer among the rank and file officers.
