Case Study: Good Advice Pharmacy technician Hillary observes one of the pharmacists in the large retail pharmacy where she is employed attempting to convince a patient not to take an over-the-counter medication that is contraindicated with prescription medication that she is also taking. The patient initially says that even though she clearly understands the risk that he has explained to her, she wants to take the medication anyway and says she can live with the side effects. However, the pharmacist persists and convinces her not to take the over-the-counter product. On the second occasion, she observes the same pharmacist involved in a debate with another patient who insists that she 'wants what she wants and doesn't care what the pharmacist thinks'. She argues vehemently that it is her decision to make. However, the pharmacist does not relent and continues to try to persuade the patient to take his advice. This infuriates the patient and she stops out of the pharmacy angry and upset. The pharmacy manager observed the situation at a distance and asked Hillary what is going on. Hillary knows that the pharmacist and the pharmacy manager have a strained relationship. To complicate the situation, Hillary has become friends with the pharmacist and they have even occasionally enjoyed some social events outside of work. Hillary knows that the pharmacist is well-intentioned and he's giving his patients good advice, but something just doesn't feel right. Need Assignment Help?
