Pairs of homologous chromosomes

A diploid cell contains 3 pairs of the homologous chromosomes designated C1 and M1, C2and M2, and S1 and S2. No crossing over occurs.

a. What combination(s) of chromosomes are probable in daughter cells following mitosis? C1, C2, M1, M2, S1 and S2. In mitosis daughter cells copy the mother cell. There isn’t any crossing over of material to make a new combination.

b. What combination(s) of chromosomes are probable in haploid cells following both divisions of the meiosis?

(Hint: remember independent assortment)

After second division of meiosis, The chromosomes would be the C1/M1/S1, C1/M1/S2, C2/M1/S1, C2/M2/S2, C1/M2/S1, C2/M1/S2, C1/M2/S2, C2/M2/S1. The second division of meiosis makes daughter cells from chromosomes. These are genetically the similar material or a copy of chromosome created after the first meiosis.
