Problem: Hori is of Polynesian descent, living in America. There is often confusion when it comes to the association between Asian, Polynesian, and Pacific islanders as people may think they are from the same descent and possibly practice the same cultures however, that cannot be more incorrect. In fact, Polynesians exemplify a much different cultural background, have a much different history, language, and religion of their own (Allen & Smith, 2015). Within the Polynesian culture they believe in depending upon each other mutually and put a strong emphasis on family connection, social perspectives, in this culture it is important to maintain relationships (Allen & Smith, 2015). Because of this strong cultural influence of maintaining relationships is why systemic approaches in therapy seems to be an ideal choice for this family as this approach will help Hori get through this hard time, with the help of his family being the key component to his healing process.
