One must understand what kinds of goods are being produced. If the goods that are being produced are nonperishable, then the production is much easier because there really isn't a time crunch. However, if the production is time sensitive due to the fact that it is perishable, then things get a little more complicated. If it is perishable then the company will need to use a just-in-time inventory method and production method. Services can be trickier still. When delivering a service, you must ensure that all of the intangible qualities of your product are stellar. Instead of your product being good, your workers' attitude and personality has to be good. The "delivery" has to be timely and efficient; whereas goods just need to be timely. But these are not polar opposites. Both products need to be delivered in a timely manner that will bring pleasure to the consumer. Granted that all of the different characteristics listed on page nine are different, the overall end result is the same: the manager needs to produce something that has to be delivered on schedule and brings utility to the consumer.
