Someone who is familiar with the culture, several years in the game, will be better equipped to understand the values and assumptions that are embedded in the culture, as they will have seen patterns of behavior over time. Insiders know what is happening in the decision-making process, know how informal networks work and know the unwritten rules governing daily interactions. An outsider, for example, could perceive a sense of team spirit in a team celebration, but not be aware of whether it's a true celebration or a token gesture intended to appease corporate needs.
