Structure of the Cilia and Flagella

Cilia and flagella are hair-like cell organelles. The diameter (0.2 μm) and internal structure of cilia and flagella is similar to each other but these structures differ in length. Cilia are generally less than 15 μm in length while flagella may be as long as 200 μm. The internal structure and the molecular composition of cilia and flagella have been well studied by electron microscopy and biochemical techniques.
