Question 1:

Most of the liquid crystal displays divide a pixel into three sub-pixels colored red, green and blue. Describe why this is so.

Some of the liquid crystal displays divide a pixel into four sub-pixels colored red, green, blue and white. Describe why this might be helpful, what benefits it has and what limitations it has.

Compare and contrast the half-toning and error diffusion. Comprise in your answer a description of the conditions in which each is superior to the other.

Question 4:

One method of anti-aliasing is to sample at high resolution, n x n higher than the final image, and then to average each block of n x n pixels to give a single pixel value. Describe the merits and demerits of using:

a) Gaussian blurring
b) Median filtering

in place of the simple averaging.
