Measure their public speaking anxiety

Eight students were given a pretest to measure their public speaking anxiety. Then, they completed a workshop to reduce their anxiety. Upon completion of the workshop, the students were given a posttest. At the 0.05 significance level, can one conclude that the workshop reduced their anxiety? Data are shown below (note: a lower score indicates a lower anxiety level). Use the Sign Test and the Signed Rank Test.

Pretest 23 26 31 39 23 21 28 27

Posttest 22 29 27 29 33 21 25 28

State the hypotheses for the Sign Test.

Display the test Statistic S (the # of plus signs).

Determine the p-value using a binomial distribution graph.

Draw a conclusion and interpret your results (i.e. answer the question being posed).

State the hypotheses for the Signed Rank Test.

Manually calculate W+. Show work for full credit.

Determine the p-value using Table 8 (posted on blackboard).

Draw conclusions and compare these conclusions to your conclusions in part (d).
