Discuss the use of rhythm, melody, harmony, tonality, texture, and form in each piece. What do you think the musical idiosyncrasies of each genre are? How are they shown in your choices?
Describe what the pieces communicate to you in terms of mood. What musical element or elements makes them evocative to you?
Finally, compare and contrast the three genres. How are they alike? How are they different? Do you think one influenced another? What are the strengths and weaknesses of each genre in terms of evoking emotion from the listener?
