a) Describe how far Gardner’s statement is still relevant when it comes to the Mauritian school organizations.

b) How can a school leader reconcile the Leadership-Management tension?

Question 2: Those women who have accomplished positions that are held predominantly by men have realized, consciously or unconsciously, that there are social roles and expectations governing the role of females from the culture. They should become ‘abnormal’ women; they should transcend the social expectations of femaleness in order to aspire to the socially prescribed role of leader. And since they do not fit the expectations of the attributes of leaders, they are as well ‘abnormal’ administrators. (Schmuck 1996, p.356)

a) According to feminist studies in educational leadership, what are the main barriers to women advancement to leadership positions in the school?

b) Assess the condition of female school leaders in schools and colleges in Mauritius and state what could be done to further raise the number of women in the leadership position.

Question 3: It is usually believed that school mottos are more than catchy slogans; they can be driving forces for whole school communities.

a) Describe the signifiucance of school mottos and in what manners can they be of help in schools.

b) As a school leader, what steps would you take so as to plan a school motto and share it with the school community?
