Issues and implications for us policy

Discussion:

It is clearly evident the United States spends billions of dollars in national security, defense, and intelligence. One would assume when the economy begins fall so does United States government spending across the board (i.e. education funding, military funding, etc.). However, due to the severity and the heightened risk of withdrawing intelligence spending from defense programs and national security efforts it could potentially leave the United States vulnerable. The United States remains the leading military force of the world, still has a large economy, strong alliances, and many democratic values. However, the economy has become more in play because of the country's accustomed pursuit of a "rich man's" approach to national security strategy. (Nanto, D). This strategy has proven very costly and risky, an expense the United States may not be prepared to keep up.
