Assume you are a Human Resources Manager tasked with investigating claims of unfair hiring and promotion practices within your organization. Union representation is threatening a grievance and possible lawsuit because there appears to be no protocols in place to recruit, interview, and select prospective employees.

Prepare a guidance report for the organization's unit chief, who is very concerned about the allegations. She/he wants to ensure there are no discriminatory practices occurring.

• In your report, be sure to address the following questions:

• What steps will you take to investigate the allegations?

• Who, if anyone, will you speak to about the allegations?

• What federal, state, and/or local policies will you use to guide you in your efforts?

• How will you prevent unfair hiring and promotion practices from occurring in the future?
