Problem: Summarize. Morris et al. (2022) conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the effectiveness of interventions designed to reduce falls among hospitalized adults. The researchers examined interventions such as patient and staff education, rehabilitation and exercise programs, environmental modifications, assistive devices, medication management, alarm systems, organizational policies, and multifactorial fall-prevention programs. The review included 43 studies, with 23 studies included in the meta-analysis. The sample consisted of hospitalized adults in acute-care and rehabilitation settings. The review found considerable variation in intervention designs and research methods. Education was the only intervention that demonstrated statistically significant results in the meta-analysis. Education reduced the fall rate by approximately 30%, with a rate ratio of 0.70, 95% confidence interval [0.51, 0.96], and reduced the likelihood that a patient would experience a fall, with an odds ratio of 0.62, 95% confidence interval [0.47, 0.83]. Patient and staff education studies were also rated as high-quality evidence using the GRADE approach. The review also found that bed alarms, chair alarms, wearable sensors, and scored fall-risk assessment tools were not associated with statistically significant reductions in hospital falls. Multifactorial interventions showed potential benefits, but the findings were inconsistent across studies. Need Assignment Help?
