International emergency economic powers act

Assignment:

The International Emergency Economic Powers Act and the USA PATRIOT Act grant exceptional and extraordinary powers to the president to respond to almost any declared international emergency. Since the terrorist attacks of 2001, the United States has used these laws aggressively in the war against terror and against those deemed to be supporters of terrorist groups. Many Americans and civil libertarians view these laws with skepticism because they are easily subject to abuse by a president or law enforcement agencies. Based on your outside reading and knowledge, what are the pros and cons of granting emergency powers to the president for use against terrorism? Do you feel that the law been used overzealously, or has it given the president appropriate law enforcement tools needed to protect the nation? What do you think about their effectiveness against terrorism versus their potential for abuse?

Your answer must be typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman font (size 12), one-inch margins on all sides, APA format and also include references.
