B. After reading Dharavi: Mumbai’s Shadow City, answer the following questions:

1. What are some ideas about how Dharavi developed? Why is it now of interest to politicians and businesspeople?

2. In what ways does working in the “informal sector” create opportunities for people?

3. What challenges does the case of Dharavi illustrate for the increasing worldwide trend of urban living?

4. How do those in positions of power view slums differently than do those who live there? What do their views or desires have in common? What are different perspectives on what to do with these “slums” – and who would benefit?
