In reading Kawachi, Fujisawa, and Takao (2007), I was left with an intriguing question in regards to implications of the future of Japan. The conclusion ended with the development of the American political view of winners and losers. I perceive this as having many different opinions in regards to the American experience because of the country profile and data that is presented. Obesity has tripled in Japan since 1995 (World Health Organization Western Pacific Region, 2010) yet is not nearly as high as that of the United States which has one-third of the adults marked as being obese (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2017). However, Japan is rising in its obesity rate, according to Okamoto (2008) in 2004 middle-aged adults have a higher obesity rate the same as in the United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2017). This information is just data that I find intriguing that correlates with my perception of American living and culture that potentially may influence countries like Japan. What do you think Kawachi et al. (2007) was referring to?
