Part II:

Juvenile Justice Assessment

Part 1: Please post a response to the following: Are you more crime control or due process oriented? How do you feel about the future of juvenile courts, considering your orientation?

Part 2: Then, please respondto a classmate's opinion.

This is my classmate’s opinion:
I tend to fall more in the middle of the spectrum when it comes to crime control vs due process. However, when an adult case comes up where they killed a child for example I find that I am more crime control oriented. When I see juvenile cases I think I am more in the middle and maybe a little more due process because I think they aren't old enough to really make decision yet, and maybe they don't know any better.  I think that not all juveniles should be tried as adults like some are right now. The prefrontal cortex of a juvenile isn't fully developed until the age of 25, which is where rational thinking comes form. If a child is caught drinking while under age yes I believe they should be punished, but does it really need to be as an adult. I get if you are 18, because to me that is when you become some what of an adult. you are able to move out of the house at this point, go to college and make your own decisions without your parents always being there. all in all, I feel that juvenile courts try to commit too many kid that haven't been able to learn from their mistakes yet. Maybe they just need a little guidance, and maybe a little jail time to scare them, but they might change after a short time of knowing the consequences.
