James Q. Wilson attempted to clarify what it is that the police are supposed to do and maintained that there are three distinctive styles of policing: watchman, legalistic, and service. Each police department has their own policing style, which serves as a reflection of the department's overall culture. In addition, the department's policing style affects all aspects of police work within that community, and are heavily linked to a community's characteristics (e.g., size, socioeconomic make-up, etc.)
• Identify which style of policing you think is most effective and fulfills the role of the police.
• Make sure you discuss each style of policing and its essential aspects and components. Then, identify which style you believe is the best, and support your decision with the information
• Really dive into why this is the opinion you hold and argue why others should have the same view. For example, do you have any personal experiences that have informed or influenced your opinion? Is there a TV show, movie, video game, etc. that has given you any influence?
