Individual Assignment:
BIM Drivers and Applications
1) Read Chapters 1 and 2 of the Penn State PxP Guide.
2) Read the provided case study on the University of Colorado-Denver Project.
The case study names the following participants:
• University of Colorado
• Fentress Bradburn Architects Inc.
• Martin & Martin Structural Engineers
• Mortenson Construction
• Sturgeon Electric
• Western States Fire Protection
• U.S. Engineering
• Cives Steel Company
The Case study describes the following BIM uses (some BIM use names differ slightly from those used in class):
• Early Project Cost and Schedule Analyses
• Model Based Coordination
• Constructability studies
• Model Based Fabrication
• Shop Drawings
• Assembly instructions
• 4D Simulation
• RFI Submission
• Facility Management
3) For each BIM use described in the case study, identify which project stakeholders participated and the nature of their participation (e.g. providing models, using models and the personal benefits (i.e. to each company) in participating.
Provide your answer using no more than two pages and in your own words.
For this assignment, it is appropriate to answer using a table and sentence fragments. See the model answer on page two of this assignment. You will not be penalized for basing your response to the RFI Submission BIM use on the model answer.
