Using the 12th edition of Language Awareness, complete this assignment:
After reading Andrew Sullivan's "What's So Bad about Hate," in Language Awareness, visit the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) website: https://www.splcenter.org/?ref=logo
Once there, explore the section, "Who We Are" and "What We Do," located in the left-hand navigation menu. Then, in the navigation menu, in the section entitled, "Get Informed," click on "Hate Map." Choose a state with which you are familiar and research at least four so-called "hate groups." If you choose a state with fewer than four hate groups, supplement your exploration of that state with additional groups located in Pennsylvania. All in all, you must examine four groups.
Next, in your Intercultural Journal entry, complete the following:
1. Identify and summarize the information from the SPLC about those four hate groups.
2. How would each of the four hate groups fit into Sullivan's classification of hate?
3. Do you perceive any of the four groups as dangerous? If yes, which ones? If not, why not?
4. Should the state or federal government do anything about these groups? If yes, what? If no, why not?
5. What is your personal reaction about Sullivan's article and the SPLC's website?
