Problem
The main reasons why business analysis is difficult as outlined in the textbook are Inconsistent Data Definitions, Lack of Data Standards, Poor Data Quality, Inadequate Data Usefulness, and Ineffective Direct Data Access (Baltzan, P., & Phillips, A., 2023).
For my organization, there are dedicated teams that parse through the huge amounts of data gathered through our Electronic Medical Records (EMR). They define the parameters, and they work towards standardizing data across Alberta Health Services which are used to track and analyze many of the hospital's metrics, for example Length of Stay. However, one of the biggest obstacles this organization faces is Ineffective Direct Data Access. Managers or Quality personnel driving improvement projects are often tied down with time consuming accessibility requests. Since information security is critical, multiple approval processes are required before the requested data can be provided.
