Choose one company to answer the following questions on.

1. Select a company that you are familiar with, or that you have worked for in the past. Analyse the company’s strategic & operational plans. In a short paragraph explain the difference between ‘strategic’ and ‘operational’ plans.

2. From the following list, develop ONE of the following HR policies and procedure documents. Please ensure that you clearly state the policy, outline the procedure and provide any supporting documentation as required:

• Recruitment, Selection & Induction.
• Recruitment Advertising
• Outsourcing external specialists
• Application processing
• Job Descriptions
• Probationary periods
• Interviewing Methodologies
• Induction

3. Outline any technology that could be used in the recruitment, selection & induction process.

4. How would you convince your manager to accept a new policy and procedures?

5. How often and how should you update and amend any HR Policy & Procedure documentation?

6. What communication methods are used to advise changes in Policy and Procedure documents? Is training provided?

7. Which forms of legislation apply when developing policy and procedure documents? e.g. EEO, IR, Diversity & Anti-Discrimination Legislation…. Give an example of two.

8. Fully explain how future human resource needs are identified.

9. How are personnel files accessed, updated and stored? What systems are used to ensure privacy and confidentiality?

10. Why is there a constant need for training in the HR Departments?

11. How is technology used to ensure easy access to all documentation involved in the recruitment, selection and induction process? How is information managed by your nominated organisation and who is responsible for this?

12. Discuss the various ways of advertising vacant positions in modern organisations today i.e. paper or internet. Which do you think is the most effective and why?

13. Why should organisational policy and legal requirements be considered when advertising vacant positions? What relevant legislation must be adhered to? Why?

14. Define the concept of outsourcing. What are the benefits of utilising external specialists vs. internal resources? Should costs be a consideration?

15. Outline a proposed training schedule to support any new employees in the induction process.

16. Provide a brief statement advising all staff of the new ‘induction’ processes within the organisation. How can this process be monitored to ensure compliance?

17. Explain the process for monitoring new employees during the probationary period. Are new employees provided with support? If so, how are they supported? Review the induction process, gather feedback and provide suggestions for improvement.

18. Conduct some research and provide two examples of typical HR software systems used in organisations today. List the common features and functions of each software program.
