Problem
A 16-year-old boy with a peanut allergy is brought to the emergency department with shortness of breath and swelling of the throat and tongue.
As the emergency department nurse caring for this client, discuss the following:
1) What medication orders do you anticipate from the health care provider?
2) What assessments will you complete before and after administration of the medications?
3) How will you know if the medication was effective?
4) Once the client is stabilized, what patient education will you provide?
