Protecting the environment is a very difficult undertaking, and many Americans and politicians disagree with one another over how best to do so and what role (if any) the government should play in doing so. Although much focus is on the extent to which the government should regulate manufacturers, individuals may or may not make efforts to reduce their impact on the environment. Should the government enact policies designed to bring about certain behaviors by individuals (e.g. requiring people to recycle, awarding tax credits to families purchasing fuel-efficient vehicles, etc.)? Why or why not? What policies would you support?
