Assignment:
Kendra Kimble-Moore
As a counselor, I can avoid becoming "stuck" in a particular theoretical framework by remaining aware of stagnation in my practice and recognizing potential blind spots or limitations in my knowledge. Murdock (2025) explains that effective counselors continue to develop their theoretical orientation throughout their professional careers rather than rigidly relying on a single approach. Remaining open to new perspectives, interventions, and evidence-based practices allows counselors to better meet the diverse needs of clients from different cultural and social backgrounds. I also believe that maintaining commitment to lifelong learning through continuing education, professional development, and supervision is essential for professional growth.
In addition, partnering with skilled supervisors and other mental health professionals can broaden my understanding and gain exposure to new techniques and interventions. According to the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics, counselors have an ethical responsibility to engage in ongoing education and professional development to maintain competence and provide effective services to clients (ACA,2014). Continued growth helps counselors remain responsive to changes within the field.
Now that I understand counseling theory more deeply, I am especially interested in learning about integrative approaches, trauma-informed care, and brief therapy models such as solution-focused and narrative therapy. I am particularly interested in the counseling field's shift toward technology and telehealth because they improve accessibility, continuity of care, and flexible support for underserved and diverse populations. Allowing counselors to use flexible approaches that support empowerment, resilience, and meaningful change for people in diverse populations (Murdock, 2025). Need Assignment Help?
