Discussion Post: Japanese Internment
In 1942, President Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066 which ordered the internment of all people of Japanese ancestry along the west coast. This included American citizens as well as Japanese nationals. Below are two films (both short: one is 21 minutes and the other is less than 10 minutes).
Watch both of the films and post your responses to the following questions:
• Provide two examples of how the media or the US government's portrayal of internment differ from the experiences of those who were interviewed for the documentary.
• And who do you believe to be ultimately responsible for what happened?
