Cognitive psychology is the study of how people think, learn, remember and process information. I think cognitive psychology is important because it explains why people think and react differently in everyday situations.
Two cognitive processes that interest me the most were attention and working memory. Attention is the ability to focus on one type of information while ignoring distractions. Working memory is the temporary storage of information that we use in real time. The article explained that working memory helps with tasks like remembering phone numbers or processing information while completing an activity. I found these processes interesting because they affect daily life constantly.
One time I used both attention and working memory was while doing nails during a busy day at my salon. I had to focus on my clients' design request while also remembering the steps, products, and timing for each service. There were distractions around me like conversations, music, and phone notifications, but I still had to stay focused to avoid mistakes. This happened recently at work during a weekend appointment rush. My client was involved because I had to listen carefully to what she wanted while completing detailed nail art. This experience showed me how important cognitive processes are in everyday activities and professional work.
